How do I deactivate an automatic return receipt?

The sender of an email can request a return receipt from the recipient of their email. A return receipt is sometimes also called a message disposition notification (MDN). They can be requested either for specific emails or as standard whenever an email is sent.

In the Posteo webmail interface, automatic confirmation of an email’s receipt is deactivated by default in order to protect your privacy (e.g. against spammers).

If you would like to check whether you have changed this setting and the Posteo webmail interface is automatically confirming the receipt of emails, you can find out in this help article how to find the return receipt in the settings and how to deactivate automatic return receipts once again, if desired.

How to deactivate automatic return receipts

  1. Click Settings
  2. Click Preferences
  3. Click Mailbox View

Click "Settings" then "Preferences" and "Mailbox View"

  1. From the dropdown menu next to On request for return receipt, select ask each time or ignore
  2. Confirm your selection by clicking Save

Select the required entry and click "Save"

You have now deactivated the automatic sending of return receipts.
