How do I receive a delivery confirmation (DSN)?

When you send an email, you can ask for a delivery confirmation (DSN). The incoming server will then notify you that the email you sent has been received.

Even if you don't activate this function, you will always receive a notification if the sending of an email is delayed or if an email cannot be sent.

In this help article you will learn how to receive a delivery confirmation (DSN).

Frequently asked questions

How do I tell if I've received a delivery confirmation?

Delivery confirmations are automatic notifications sent by the email system and look similar to error messages. DSNs that come from the Posteo server have the subject line Successful Mail Delivery Report. DSNs from other email servers could have different subject lines.

I requested a delivery confirmation, but didn't receive one. What now?

Very few incoming servers fail to send delivery confirmations when requested. If you haven't received an error message, you can still generally assume that the email was sent.

What does the recipient have to do to ensure that I receive a delivery confirmation?

You will receive a delivery confirmation (DSN) without the recipient having to do anything. A DSN is an automated, server-generated message and not a Return receipt, which a recipient confirms themselves.

I'd only like to receive a delivery confirmation (DSN) automatically when sending emails on Posteo webmail. Will that work?
