How do I display my password in Thunderbird?

Have you forgotten your Posteo password? If you fetch your emails with Thunderbird via IMAP or POP3, you can retrieve your password on your PC or Mac.

How to retrieve your password in Mozilla Thunderbird

In order to retrieve your password, open Thunderbird. Afterwards, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the sandwich button in the upper-right of Thunderbird.
  2. Click on Preferences.
Click on the "sandwich button" in the top right-hand corner of Thunderbird and open the "Settings".
  1. Open the menu item Privacy and Security.
  2. Under the section entitled Passwords, click on Saved Passwords....
Open "Privacy & Security" in the menu and click on "Saved passwords..." in the "Passwords" section.
  1. You will now see a list of all accounts in Thunderbird. By clicking on Show Passwords, you will display the corresponding passwords.
Click on "Show passwords" to display the passwords.
  1. Confirm by clicking on Yes.

  1. You will now see your Posteo password next to your Posteo email address in the column Password.

Older Thunderbird Versions

The following photo guide will show you how to retrieve your password in older versions of Thunderbird.

Thunderbird 52 and older

  • Click on the sandwich button in Thunderbird, click on the arrow next to Settings and open the "Preferences".
  • Open "Security" in the menu, click on "Passwords" and then click on "Saved passwords...".
  • Click on "Show passwords" to display the passwords. Confirm by clicking "Yes".
  • You will see your Posteo password next to your Posteo email address in the "Password" column.
